Thanks ... I was rather astonished that she allowed me to photograph her. The photo was taken in the Sabba gorge in north-east Ethiopia. The sabba river trickles through the gorge down to the danakil desert. This area of ethiopia is inhabited by the afar people - a people with a fearsome reputation (although we really didn't encounter any of this - the trick was in the guide that we hired to visit the area). As well as their reputation they are devout Muslim; we understood before visiting the area that we couldn't look at the women, let alone photograph them ... so when this young, married woman allowed me to photograph her I was taken aback. Beautiful, indeed! I only hope that the photo that I snapped did her a little justice.
